Fifteen‑year‑old Isaac lives with his grandmother in rural Malawi and is supported by the Friends of Mulanje Orphanage (FOMO) Centre. When the FOMO outreach clinic visited his village, he was suffering from abdominal pain, bloody urine, fatigue, and weight loss.

Using simple diagnostic tools supplied by Inter Care: a thermometer, weighing scale, and stethoscope, health workers were able to assess Isaac and diagnose schistosomiasis, a water‑borne disease caused by parasites in contaminated water.

Thanks to donated medicines, Isaac’s symptoms quickly improved. His energy returned, the pain eased, and he is now able to focus on his education again.

Isaac’s story shows how surplus medical supplies from the UK can be repurposed to deliver life‑changing care while reducing waste and protecting the environment.
