St Joseph’s Children and Adult Home (SAJOCAH)

St Joseph’s Children and Adult Home (SAJOCAH) caters for disabled children and adults. In 2009 they helped 750 people with orthopaedic conditions including post operative patients from Njinikom, neurological conditions, amputees and those with visual impairment.
The physiotherapy, workshops and resource rooms for the blind were particularly affecting. As well as medicines, they would be
grateful for bandages, dressings, Elastoplast, chiropodist felt etc. especially useful for their patients with
artificial limbs.

St Francis of Assisi Hospital

This hospital founded in October 2005 and situated 7km from Bamenda Town has been supported by Inter Care since November 2009. The condition of the roads is very poor which is impassable in the rainy season and they have little water supply. The hospital has dug wells for patients use. The population that the hospital supports currently stands at 14,850.

St John The Baptist Health Centre, Ndop

This health centre began in 2004 and is run by Sister Kerwong Emerenta who is Matron. The unit is 45km from Bamenda and the condition of the roads has improved. There is 44 beds on 8 wards which include medical men & women, childrens and maternity facilities. There is a resident doctor and 1 midwife amongst the 12 staff members. The population of the catchment area is 32,390 people.

Wvem Health Centre

Together with Kourem and Wainamah, this unit began as an out-reach clinic from Shisong Hospital but the people were anxious to make their own efforts and have created a small medical unit, still supervised from Shisong Hospital, but run and financed by themselves.

The Health Centre serves a population of 3,916 and the condition of the roads in the area is bad. They do however have good availability of water. The nearest referral unit is in Kumbo Town 12km away. The centre has 16 beds and a staff of 7 people.

St Martins Health Centre, Wum

The Health Centre is situated 55 km north of Bamenda town in the North-west Province. It was set up by the Francisca Sisters in 1987 and serves a population of around 14,702. It has 68 beds with 18 staff including a resident doctor and is on the way to becoming a community hospital in scope, with a laboratory and dental unit. The maternal and child-health clinics are supplemented by monthly visits to three out-stations, and the HIV/Aids activities include prevention of mother-to-child transmission, and education and community home-based care programmes.
