Boxing sensation supports healthcare in Africa

Lightweight boxing sensation Amir Khan is to become a Patron of Inter Care – Medical Aid for Africa, it was announced today.

Inter Care – Medical Aid for Africa, is a Leicester-based charity that has for over 30 years recycled quality, in-date returned patient medicines to a network of over 100 clinics in seven countries of sub-Saharan Africa. This saves the NHS the cost of disposing of them in landfill or by incineration, and provides essential medicines to literally thousands of people who would not otherwise be able to afford them.

Khan, who turned professional after winning a silver medal for Britain at the Athens Olympics, said: “Fighting is my life and I know I’m really lucky to make a living doing something I love. But I also know that for many people in Africa the fight is more about staying alive. So I am very pleased to support Inter Care’s efforts to fight for these people by using the medicines that we would otherwise throw away to help save and improve their lives.”
