Tarakea Dispensary

Tanzania

The Dispensary, which is under the Diocese of Moshi is run by the Parish Priest and the Kilimanjaro Sisters. The Tarakea RC Dispensary is situated in a small and fast growing border town and situated 90kms from the centre of Moshi. It is on the North Eastern side of the Rombo District on the slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro. From Tarakea, the snow-cap on the mountain is very visible.

Tarakea Dispensary serves nine villages with the population of 50,750 people.
There are 4 departments as follows:
Webmart UKOut patients
In patients
Maternity Ward with ante natal & post natal wards
Female & Male Wards

The Dispensary has been waiting to receive medicines from Inter Care since December 2007 and now in May 2009 after a generous donation from the Webmart Charitable Trust, we have agreed to start supporting this new unit which has virtually no medicines and very little equipment.

We attempted to visit this Dispensary in September 2009, however we had to abandon the visit owing to a new road being built making it impassable to get to the unit.
