Mpendae Dispensary
Submitted by editor on 23. October 2008 - 12:12
This small unit on the island of Zanzibar set up by the Catholic Diocese serves a population of about 1,000 who have no other access to medical care. A major problem for the people is shortage of water, though there is a mains electricity supply. The unit has a small laboratory and 2 small rooms where patients can “rest” for a day. Maternity and ante-natal services are offered.
In 2010, this small unit had 3,014 outpatients all seen to by one doctor, one clinical officer and 3 nurses. They recently told us that "Inter Care should not stop sending us medicine because we shall not be able to provide enough drugs to the poor and elderly who cannot afford it". Inter Care will be visiting this clinic next in August 2011.
