Chala Dispensary
Submitted by editor on 23. October 2008 - 11:41
This is a small dispensary in a remote area in the far western part of Tanzania, on the road leading to Sumbawanga. Patients walk up to 10 miles to reach it because they are more sure of getting medicines there than in the nearer Government Centres. The original buildings have been replaced with bright new ones. There are a few beds, mainly for maternity.
Their catchment area covers a population of around 15,000. The roads to the centre are poor and muddy duting the rains. After a visit in September 2010, we discovered that Dr Kalulu has a total staff of 4. There are 25 beds in 4 wards.
