To reach Sukasanje, another of the units run by the Sisters of the Blessed Virgin Mary, it is necessary to ford a strong stream that flows down a mountain and is allowed to cross the only road in the area. Nearby is a major establishment of the Malawi Armed Forces, so the large Health Centre sometimes calls upon the army to provide transport when it is necessary to refer patients needing more than basic services, maternity, ante-natal, etc. There are 30 beds at the Health Centre, mobile clinics operate twice a week and HIV / AIDS patients benefit from community home-based care programmes.
After a visit in September 2009, we established that the clinic has a catchment of 11,148 people and has an outreach programme which covers 12 villages. They deal with a lot of under nourished children in this area and it was very evident that they desperately still need help from Inter Care.
