Nsipe Health Centre
Nsipe Health Centre is run by the Blessed Virgin Mary Congregation of Blantyre. This health unit began in 1966 and is based on the road from Blantyre to Lilongwe and is just off a good tarmac road which is unusual for Malawi. This health unit has 56 beds and serves a population of 25,475.
The 5 staff which includes 1 Medical Assistant, treat mainly maternity and obstetrics but also have 4 wards which are used to treat male, female and children as necessary.
Their outreach programme consists of 5 Health Service Assistant's (HSA) which visit 78 outlying villages twice monthly. The most common diseases treated there are malaria, pneumonia, diarrhoea, dysentery, anaemia, STD's, HIV related illnesses and malnutrition.
After a visit in September 2009, it was agreed in November 2009 for Inter Care to support this clinic.
