Inter Care has supported this hospital since 1983. Money saved because it was sending help was used to build an extra ward (called “Inter Care Lodge”) that is now a meeting place for the HIV/AIDS support group.

The hospital has 90 beds and several resident doctors (some foreign, on an exchange scheme) as well as a visiting surgeon. In addition to the operating theatre, the hospital is equipped with a Laboratory, x-ray facilities and ultrasound and has a nutrition unit. There are outreach clinics for TB, mother and child health, mental health and public health.

Inter Care visited in September 2010 and noted that there are 148 staff who carry out around 2,500 operations a year of which 75% are major surgery and in maternity, they had 1,700 deliveries last year of which 300 were by caesarean section and 40 were still births.
