St Patricks Hospital, Offinso

One of the most recent additions to the health units supported by Inter Care, St Patrick’s started receiving donations of medicines in 2004. One of only a few hospitals supported by Inter Care, St Patrick’s has 160 beds and is the biggest hospital in the area serving a large population. Offinso is a small town 45 km to the north of the regional capital, Kumasi. The hospital was founded in 1950 and is now managed by the Diocese of Kumasi by the Immaculate Heart Sisters. It has 160 beds and 6 resident doctors including specialists in ophthalmology and public health. Dental services are also offered. The hospital also has an adjacent midwife training school which, whilst independently run, receives support from the hospital’s clinical teams. As well as its busy hospital-based work, St Patrick’s holds regular clinics at outlying villages reaching those people who live too remote from the hospital to obtain treatment, including ophthalmology and maternal health clinics.

Inter Care visited in February 2009 and were told that they still needed the medicines we send and that they were of the best quality. They also requested more medicines which we currently do not provide and further equipment for their dental clinic.
