Ghana Mother and child in a waiting room.

This small clinic, staffed by 2 nurses and 2 midwives, is 25kms from the nearest town Kumasi. Its 6 beds are used mainly for maternity cases but malaria, diarrhoea, typhoid and urinary infections are the most common of the outer conditions it treats. The clinic receives no help from the government, even though there are no other medical facilities in the area. They have a catchment of 16,000 with the farthest being 20 miles away.

Inter Care visited the clinic in September 2010 and found that they have, on average, 5 or 6 deliveries per week. Any mothers which present with complications are sent to Komfo Anoyke Hospital in Kumasi. To do this, they have to use private cars or taxis as they have no ambulance. It was evident that they are still in desperate need of medicines from Inter Care
