St Johns Clinic, Domeabra
St John’s Clinic at Domeabra began as a very small unit, working from one of the local houses. Funds were made available in the 1990’s and there is now a 22 bedded Health Centre with 6 wards. Solar power has recently been installed by overseas benefactors. This is now one of the best medical units within a catchment area of some 50,000. A tarmac road has recently connected this formerly almost inaccessible area to Kumasi, though little transport is available along it.
The clinic is run by a midwife / nurse. They have facilities to refer to a nearby hospital, where there is a resident doctor. They only deal with basic medical cases eg. dehydration, chest infections, malaria, dysentery and gastroenterritis and pain from simple trauma etc. However, maternity cases are dealt with on a regular basis.
St John's also has a small laboratory and would welcome any newborn baby clothes or cot sheets / blankets.
Inter Care visited St John's in February 2009 and could see the need for our support still.
