Tatum Convent was one of the first established by the European Franciscan Sisters when they arrived in Cameroon in 1935 (European and African Sisters are united in the one Congregation today) and the Health Centre was added in 1970. It serves a population of some 10,000 22km from Kumbo in the North-west Province. There are 68 beds and a total staff of about 8. Maternal and child-health clinics are supplemented with monthly visits to 3 out-reach stations and the HIV/AIDS activities include prevention of mother-to-child transmission and education and community home-based care programmes.
