Newbell Prison was established in January 2004 and is run buy the Sisters of St Therese of the child Jesus and the Archdiocese of Douala. The prison is based in Douala, Cameroon and houses 3,600 prisoners. There are no medical facilities in the area and the availability of water is poor. They treat all of the prisoners on site with virtually no medical supplies so are desperate for the help of Inter Care. There is no doctor on site but a doctor does visit once a month. There are 7 beds in one general ward. Like many of the places we support, the most common diseases are malaria, malnutrition, diarrhoea, dysentry.
We have sent them there first consignment of medicines which arrived in July 2009.
