Djottin Health Centre
This centre is situated in the most beautiful of mountainous and verdant landscapes, though this makes access very difficult. The Sisters who go out to the villages where they hold out-reach clinics sometimes need to sleep in the open before they can reach their destinations. The Catholic Mission Health Centre, which was started in 1965 and has been supported by Inter Care since 1986, has 45 beds and a laboratory but no theatre. This creates problems when patients – such as mothers with a difficult delivery – need to be referred to the nearest hospital at Shishong 25km away. The Health Centre holds maternity, ante-natal, and vaccination clinics and organises education and community-based care programmes help for HIV/AIDS patients. Djottin Health Centre looks after a population of around 8000 people.
