This Health Centre was started by the Franciscan Sisters in 1964 and serves a population of about 18,000 with the nearest referral hospital 115 km away. In the 1980s it was the site of a WHO programme on sleeping sickness and the disease has now been eradicated from the area. The Centre has 60 beds and some 10 nursing staff. A doctor visits occasionally. Maternal and child-health clinics are provided and out-reach clinics are held regularly in two neighbouring villages. The HIV/AIDS activities include the prevention of mother-to-child transmission and an education programme.
