Bali Nyonga Health Centre

Cameroon Bali Nyonga Health Centre

This long established Health Centre (it was started in 1970) is some 10 km south-west of Bamenda and is now reachable along a new road. Bali is a small town with villages on the periphery and strong tribal awareness and identity, typical of this north-west Province. The local chief (Fon) and his palace are very important to the community. The population of the catchment area is 19,000. The availability of water to this population is very poor in the dry season.

The Health Centre is served by Franciscan Sisters who are trained nurses and offers maternity, ante-natal, vaccination and similar services to nearly 5,000 outpatients. The Centre also admits more than 1,500 in-patients a year for minor surgery. The staff of 13 including 1 resident Doctor take care to provide material and social help as well as treatment for those with HIV/AIDS. The health center has 67 beds in 6 wards. The laboratory got a biochemistry machine in October 2009 which enables them to carry out new tests such as Inogram, Urea, Creatinine etc. which patients appreciate as they do not have to pay to travel to Bamenda town any more and do the tests there at a high cost to them.
